Ferrari 312PB. Making the Carrera into a looker! by Mark Gussin Car-on-line the German slot car magazine had a good article about converting this car. I'd already started on my own version long before seeing how someone else did it. But the article spurred me on to finish mine.
The above picture (borrowed from e-bay) shows the Carrera car as it was. Grim chassis clothed in a good body(!) and who has ever heard of a Ferrari in Orange!!!!!
Using a very much modified Fly chassis which has narrowed front track, very slightly shorter wheelbase and the guide moved back along the chassis. I then had a go at resin casting the chassis.
Original plastic roll-bar was junked. A replacement was made up using soldered brass rod. It is now far more true to the 1:1 car. What a difference!
The part complete 312PB with the 312P described elsewhere on this web site.
Here are some pictures of the partly completed car with the 312P covered elsewhere on this web site.
To modify the wheels I cut and inserted a platicard disc (above), then painted the wheel gold and added a decal made on my wonderful Alps printer.
The rear view mirror was made using a mirror from the parts box, drilling three holes underneath it, then cutting and superglueing three pins up through the bodyshell into the mirror. Quite effective!
This car is based on the 1971 car as it ran at Brands Hatch. Why? Because I was there to watch it!!
