The IMC Ford Torino on a Revell chassis done in Dan Gurney's 1968 Riverside 500 winning markings. by Mark Gussin

Some time ago I bought the bodyshell for this car, it had been made but badly. Fortunately it was restorable. Not knowing much about Nascar I researched the car a bit and also found an article in Car Model magazine describing doing Dan Gurney's car, using Cox decals, as a 1:24th scale static. So I thought I'd have a go at a 1:32nd scale slot car version.

The Car Models article.

Well the first thing I realised was the decals (which are now available in 1:32nd scale) were all wrong for this 1968 car. Or "not precise style" as the article describes it. So with my newly aquired Alps printer and much guidance from Howard Franks over in Seattle I set about producing correct number and "Ron's Ford" decals.

Much effort later, here are the results (this image has been converted into a JPEG file for ease of viw).

All the little decals on the front wings come from the decal box.

Getting good reference material was difficult. I thought the side numbers were multi-coloured initially but then was put straight and told they were gold.
Chassis was a simple Revell unit. The rear fixings match the IMC bodyshell posts perfectly. The front require a U-shaped bracket to be made which can be seen in this underside view.
Wheels are aluminium with resin inserts, painted black. They made such an improvement in the overall look of the car.
I had a minor problem with the windshield. The original had a lot of fatigue cracks and it broke. Disaster! No. I just made one out of acrylic sheet and it turned out looking better and thinner than the original.
