Starting
off with the chassis fixings. You may know that the chassis is a cut down
Ninco Mercedes CLK unit. Try and find the non-fly-through-the-air type.
The front is pretty easy to do; installing a brass collet just in front
of the windscreen. The rear is a little bit more of a challenge. I dremelled
out a hole as deep as I could go
without exiting through the bodywork outer; and then installed the brass
collet. This protrudes so a plastic washer was glued around it and the
chassis fixing shortened accordingly.
So then it was paint which was Toyota (oddly
enough!) red. And the fun started as the decal work is truely awesome,
very time consuming and difficult. Three versions are provided for numbers
27, 28 and 29. They all have the white markings, if you just take care
you should be OK. I don't use Microsol, as good as it is, unless I have
to, there is a very big decal on the back of the car which needs it
though as it covers a quite elaborate contour. Once Wheels were the Mercedes ones painted gloss black. Glazing, interior and driver were all detailed and added. Don't forget the mirrors too and finally I added the aerial using the hair from a paint brush. The result is just superb as you can see from the pictures. Keep up the great work Top Slot! For reference I suggest you get hold of one thing only and that is a fabulous French magazine called Auto modelisme "Les 24 Heures du Mans 1998". It shows all the cars that competed from all angles. Just what the modeller needs.
